The Strength in Vulnerability
In a society that often glorifies self-reliance and independence, asking for help is often seen as a weakness. Being brave enough to embrace vulnerability fosters strong, supportive connections, and that’s what it’s really all about.
In a society that often glorifies self-reliance and independence, asking for help is often seen as a weakness, something shameful, a fear that there is something people don’t know about me, that would drive them away if they did. Asking for help means letting yourself be seen as you are, but as challenging as that is, being brave enough to embrace vulnerability fosters strong, supportive connections, and that’s what it’s really all about.
A leading voice in understanding vulnerability, Brené Brown, often talks about how asking for help is a profound act of courage. In her TED talk “The power of vulnerability” Brené looks at vulnerability as the core of meaningful human connection. “To feel vulnerable is to feel alive”. And while it may not always be comfortable, it shouldn’t be excruciating either.
Brene talks about living in a vulnerable world, where most prefer to numb this feeling. It takes real strength to admit we need help and let others in during times of need, but, in doing so we allow others to be part of our journey.
Maitri’s platform is designed to help individuals going through health journeys do just that, feel empowered to be vulnerable, while providing a more organized and manageable way to navigate health challenges. By curating a personal network of support and human connection and clearly articulating and communicating needs, we allow our community to show up for us in a meaningful way and make a difference.
Brené insights remind us that creating a culture where vulnerability is celebrated makes it easier to ask for and offer help, building a caring and connected community.
