Showing up shouldn’t mean burning out.
Showing up for someone in their time of need is one of the most fulfilling things you can do.
It can also feel quite overwhelming. Not sure how to show up but not burn out? Try one of these!
Showing up for someone in their time of need is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. It can also feel quite overwhelming.
And while you might not be able to help contemplate what illness, recovery and other major life events may mean, or how they would impact you, you can still find a way to lend a helping hand.
Not sure how? Try one of these:
🔹Set Clear Boundaries - Helping does not have to equal saying YES to everything. Instead, adopt a more sustainable approach to support by being upfront about what kind of support you can offer (when, where and how). This will help make everyone involved more comfortable reaching out.
🔹Be Specific - Instead of using broad, open ended language such as "Let me know if you need anything”, replace your suggestion with a more concrete option to make accepting your offer feel like less on an imposition, such as "I’m free on Tuesdays, can I help with groceries?" or "I’d love to drop off dinner for you and your family on Friday."
🔹Use Technology - Platforms like Maitri make it easier to organize support in a structured, and collaborative way, so it’s easy to find a meaningful way to show up.
The best support systems are balanced and sustainable.
Rather than doing everything, everywhere, all the time, find a way to incorporate giving into your life in a way that is meaningful and lasting.
